Born in Kocaeli in 1989, Asst. Prof. Gülşen Topal completed her undergraduate studies in Guidance and Psychological Counseling (GPC) at Marmara University, Atatürk Faculty of Education in 2011. She earned her master's degree from Marmara University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Psychology of Religion. She completed her doctoral studies at Marmara University, Institute of Educational Sciences, Department of GPC, where she received her PhD with a thesis focused on parenting.
Between 2012 and 2023, she served as a school counselor at various educational levels ranging from preschool to high school under the Ministry of National Education (MoNE), gaining extensive field experience. Since 2023, she has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling at Istanbul 29 Mayıs University.
Her primary research interests include family, parenting, mate selection, psychology of religion and spirituality, and qualitative research. She contributed to the literature as the editor and author of the book titled Ebeveynlik (Parenting). Her scientific work is published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, and she actively continues her academic research in these fields.
